Polyvinyl Butyral Resin, or PVB, is a specialized type of plastic that is widely used in the manufacturing of safety glass, automobile windshields, high-rise building windows, and a variety of other products.
But what exactly is PVB, and what makes it so valuable and versatile? In short, PVB is a product of the condensation of polyvinyl alcohol and butyral that is catalyzed by an acid. This produces a molecule that contains a long branch chain, which gives it excellent flexibility and low glass transition temperature. Additionally, it has high tensile and impact strength, making it ideal for use in safety glass and other applications that require durability.
