Manganese carbonate, or manganous carbonate, is an inorganic compound, manganese divalent carbonate, the chemical formula MnCO3. Soluble in dilute acid, insoluble in water and ethanol. Manganese carbonate is the raw material for the manufacture of soft magnetic ferrite for telecommunication equipment, the synthesis of manganese dioxide and other manganese salts. A pigment used as a catalyst for desulfurization, for enamels, paints, and varnishes. Also used as fertilizer and feed additive. Used in medicine, welding electrode auxiliary materials, as raw materials for the production of electrolytic metal manganese.

Manganese Carbonate

Physical properties: Rose-colored triangular crystal system rhomboid crystal or amorphous bright white brown powder. The relative density is 3.125. Almost insoluble in water, slightly soluble in water containing carbon dioxide (i.e. carbonic acid), insoluble in alcohol and liquid ammonia.

Chemical properties: Soluble in dilute inorganic acid, slightly soluble in common organic acid. Stable in dry air. When wet, it is easy to oxidize, forming manganese oxide and gradually turning brown and black. When heated, carbon dioxide is liberated. Hydrolysis occurs when azeotrope with water. In boiling potassium hydroxide, manganese hydroxide is formed.

Application:

1. Widely used as desulfurization catalyst, enamel pigment, manganese salt raw materials, also used in fertilizer, medicine, feed additives, welding electrode accessories, etc.

2. It is the raw material of soft magnetic ferrite used in the production of telecommunication equipment. Industrial manganese carbonate is widely used as catalyst for desulfurization, enamel pigment, varnish drier and raw material for making other manganese salts. Also used in medicine, machinery parts and phosphating and other aspects. Agricultural manganese carbonate as trace element fertilizer content can be slightly lower.

3. It is mainly used in the manufacture of magnetic conductive materials in communication equipment, namely high performance manganese zinc ferrite.

Industrial standardManganese carbonate is an important raw material for electrolytic manganese production. The industrial standards for manganese carbonate are as follows:

Manganese content ≥8%

Iron content ≤3%

Leaching rate ≥90%

The acid consumption ratio is less than 1:1.0.

Packing, storage and transportation:

Packed in kraft paper bags, each bag weighs 25kg net. It should be stored in a cool, ventilated and dry warehouse. Moisture, heat and deterioration should be prevented. Be protected from rain and sun when transporting. Handle with care during loading and unloading to prevent packing damage. Fire can be put out with water, sand and fire extinguisher.
